HI, FRIEND!

Melissa + Rodney | Tybee Island Wedding Photographer

Nov 28, 2018

These two met and fell in love while attending the University of Florida. Go Gators! While they met at college, they didn’t meet the way most college sweethearts meet. They weren’t in the same lecture hall together. They didn’t meet each other at a party or through mutual friends. Instead, these two met because they were next door neighbors.  Melissa was literally the girl next door! They kept passing each other outside of their apartments on their way to class. Until one day, one of them decided to stop the other and introduce themselves. They don’t quite agree on which of them actually made that first move! hehe 😉

I first met these two when I shot their an engagement session. One of the first things I noticed (well aside from how Melissa ROCKED that yellow jumpsuit! So stylish!) about them is that they are such a steady couple.  I wish you could see them together – they are quite obviously best friends, which is my favorite part of their relationship. They love to laugh and joke and have fun together, and they are so comfortable together. Not to mention, they make the most gorgeous couple! (Makes my job so easy!) Truly though, their genuine hearts are what makes them the most beautiful.

Their wedding day was full of culture! Rodney’s family is from West Africa. The women in his family wore matching traditional African wedding attire.  During their reception, Melissa and Rodney changed into traditional West African bride and groom attire. My favorite piece of Melissa’s outfit was the Gele. Is it a traditional headpiece. They are known as the ornament for African women. They are beautiful! With so many different patterns and colors. What I didn’t know is that the side which the Gele points symbolizes if the woman is married or single. I found that incredibly interesting! I could keep going, but I’ll let you see the rest of the moments for yourself in photos.

Melissa & Rodney, thank you for allowing me to play a small part in your love story. It was an extreme honor!
