HI, FRIEND!

Summertime Dahlia Bridal Portraits | Naples Wedding Photographer

Sep 30, 2021

While I am excited about Fall and sweater weather, as a South Florida native I am holding on tight to the last few days of the warm summer days.

When Savannah from The Shindig Co. reached out to me with a simple summer mini editorial that revolved around her love for dahlias, I was excited to partner with her. Savannah always has a fresh take on designing weddings and editorials, making them unique each time. Plus, Iron & Clay Flowers was going to put together a couple of garden-style dahlia bouquets, grown by Full Keel Farm and there was no way I was going to miss being a part of that!

The day dawned with a forecast for rain. Not just a light summer rain…thunderstorms were predicted. We changed the location last minute and moved to a CrossFit gym, 1Hundred Fitness (owned by Associate Photographer, Kim) because it had enough space for us to get ready get natural light, and also set up our backdrop. I spent the majority of the shoot in the parking lot under an umbrella in order to capture the light at the entrance of the gym. It was worth it!

Shay wore a beautiful Willow gown which was handmade in Greece. It is a whimsical dress with a light and airy skirt, big pouf sleeves, and a plunging neckline in the front and back. I’m not usually a pink fan, but the dress Savannah chose changed my mind. I loved how playful this shoot was for all of us. While there was an editorial feel to this, and Shay really rocked all of my more serious direction, a lot of in-between moments were full of giggles. It went perfectly with the playful color and style of this dress.

The incredible team of vendors: Photographer: Ingrid | Film Processing: Photovision | Design & Planning: The Shindig Co. | Dress: Styled Shoot Dress Rental | Floral Design: Iron & Clay | Makeup: Make up by Steph Moser | Model: Shay

Were there any unique or funny stories from the planning process/or the day? Oh, goodness! You bet there were. Where do I start? First of all, this shoot came together in four days. Four. It didn’t give anyone much time to plan, but it fell into place perfectly because of, well, strong women. Sherry from the Wild Love Collective was beyond kind to overnight the dress to us! Shay agreed to model for a bunch of strangers on the day she returned from a big work trip. Steph took off work to do makeup on a whim. Poor Ingrid just looked down at her phone and learned she had a shoot the following week because Mariana and I had gone wild in a group message. And because the weather did not participate as planned, we had to switch locations last minute and ended up shooting everything in Kim’s gym. You’d never know. Shoutout to 1Hundred Fitness!  -Savannah

What was the inspiration behind the color palette? “Savannah chose an amazing light pink, fluffy feminine dress so I selected some soft and playful accent flowers like tiny blue tweedia and delicate lavender clematis to accent the ‘peaches & cream’ dahlias.” – Mariana

“The colors of the dahlias! We embraced the bright, bold, and feminine tones in the dahlias rather than playing it safe.” – Savannah

What was it like to work with the team that put this together? “It’s always such a treat to work with these women. I feel so grateful to have such a strong team here locally!”  – Savannah

This team is an absolute dream and I wish we could work together on more creative projects and events ALL THE TIME. I love Ingrid & Savannah’s passion, creativity, attention to detail, and all-around good vibes. Plus Shay was an absolute trooper. :)” – Mariana
