Keely and Andrew were the winners of our annual engagement giveaway at the beginning of 2020. Like a lot of plans in 2020, their engagement session was rescheduled so many times. Lockdowns and state restrictions forced us to continually schedule and then reschedule. Luckily, we found the perfect date it in South Florida… the end of summer. It wasn’t too hot, but the looming summer rainstorm clouds were moving in quickly.
Our session began at Hugh Taylor Birch State Park. Keely spends a lot of her time at this park with the pups she trains for her business Ruff Rules. We know engagement sessions can feel overwhelming if you’re uncomfortable being in front of a camera, but take some notes from Keely and Andrew. They chose this location because it’s a place that feels like home to them. They also brought along some drinks and their pup to add to the experience and make it feel like a day date to a place they love.
Jenna, from Baughaus, partnered with us and made a whimsical bouquet and matching floral installation for their bohemian picnic. With neutral colors, the florals Jenna designed didn’t compete with the massive banyan tree but beautifully defined and complimented the space.
In typical Florida summertime fashion, the sunshine didn’t last for long. At the tail end of our session, right as we were heading out unto the beach, the sky opened and rain POURED down on us. With no umbrella, Keely & Andrew ran out on the beach and chased each other around in the rain. It was so beautiful to witness this magical + romantic moment between the two of them. Meanwhile, Jenna was juggling my film camera, my bag, and holding an umbrella over me so I could capture the moment. We were a sight, but not one quite as romantic as Kelly & Andrew. lol.
